Gilbert Griego was born in 1957 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has resided here ever since. He graduated from Manzano High School in 1976 with ambitions of becoming a Physical Education teacher. He was sidetracked in the retail world where he spent twenty years as a retail manager before seeking his teaching degree from the University of New Mexico. He graduated with honors in 1999 and was in search of his first teaching assignment when he happened upon a little school in the N.E. Heights named Arroyo Del Oso. He fell in love with this tiny school and has been very happy doing the thing he loves, teaching Physical Education.

Physical education is the instructional program that provides the opportunity for all students to learn and develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for life-long fitness.

It meets the NM content standards with benchmarks and performance standards.

Physical activity is body movement of any type which includes recreational, fitness and sport activities.

It includes before and after-school programs, intramurals, physical activity clubs, walk and bike to school programs, and integrating movement into the school day.
